So another day. Now we people started researching on different aspects of a slum which is situated near Hauz Khas fort.
Some of the so called homes actually share a wall with the fort. There are no proper washrooms in that area, just a single washroom in every lane without a proper door or water supply or drainage. There is problem of drainage in the whole area. People mostly work as laborers or vegetable sellers. The vegetable sellers get their vegetables from Okhla Mandi while the laborers stay there temporarily. They keep moving from one place to another as they work under contractors. These people are basically from Jhansi.
They get 200 rs for each day, so they earn around 5000-6000 rs per month. At the end of the month they are left with around 400-500 rs so in case if any of their children fall sick, they can not even pay for their treatment and moreover there just a single private hospital in the nearby area.
Most of the children attend school regularly and they even get mid-day meals. Man Woman ratio is approximately 1:1. That area is very filthy and stinks a lot and is very unhygienic. People can easily catch harmful diseases. It is also home for rag- pickers.

Utensils are made of aluminium and steal. Beds are made of ropes and wood. Earthen pots are used for storing water. There are no proper shelves or wardrobes in these houses. Even though this one is an exception. Most of the homes were made of bamboo sticks and poly bags and raw bricks and mud.
I like the pictures, it very well defines the prevailing scenario
