Few weeks ago we went to Hauz Khas, a place famous for its fort and shops and pubs and everything. As we were roaming around the fort for our project, we found a slum at the back side of it, so we decided to visit it.
Behind the shiny-starry streets of The Hauz Khas Village, is situated The MCD Slum Colony.
The water was supplied by MCD which was clearly not co-operating at all. The water pipes were broken and no one ever seemed to care. She told me that water was only available for 3-4 hours a day and they had to collect water in small buckets from a COMMON TAP.
100 people. 4 hours. 1 tap. And I cry over sharing a pizza with my sister.
No tap in the house not even a toilet. People of the slum were using a common washroom. The common tap was the only way to collect water and for those days when water was not available they used a motor, owned by the richest person of the slum and the other people who use water from that pump were supposed to pay for it, or they use the water from the lake, which believe me is not at all clean, all green and stinky.
After returning from the slum I decided to write upon the issue: water management in slums, which you must have guessed from the title itself.
As we all know slums in india are really dirty and need to be cleaned and we need to educate people about the management of resources. Water is a natural resource which is slowly and slowly getting destroyed with impurities and ..and according to me by the year 2022 we will not have that pure water for even drinking.
We need to save it and preserve. People wash and bathe in the same water which they drink and pollute it also by throwing waste in it and who knows what else….
But we can manage it easily….
By preserving it,
- rather than throwing the water we washed our clothes and utensils with using it for cleaning other things
-stop throwing waste in lake and use a dustbin
-closing the tap when not in use and not leaving it running
-and for further information please refer to your 6th class science book :)
the water condition is very bad even the trees in the water had no life, this water is no less than a poison.
