The Journey

With the end of this five week tiresome project on the eyesome Hauz Khas,I would like to sum up the experience by saying that the bigotry of that place runs deep.
Why am I being serious? Because a place so alluring holds a much more harsher side to it. The happening streets of The Hauz Khas Village might entice and lure the people to the sophisticated, "high standard" living but what goes behind the walls of the Hauz "Khas" is like no ones business.
A Lone Child on the streets.
At the end of the streets comes the area which no one pays attention to. Our project started where the road for the commoners ended. Seeing past the captivating showrooms to the part no one enters.

The slums of Hauz Khas. Half the people will be dumbstruck on the idea of a slum area in Hauz Khas. The unhealthy living conditions with no proper means of sanitation,Hauz Khas village gives any one the mental image of a flamboyant place with  expensive dining and drinking joints but the area we captured through our research remains unnoticed by the maximum number of visitors. Most of the inhabitants of the slums are unaware and uneducated of the hazards of their living conditions, but sadly they have no choice. This unsanitary conditions and the absence of sewage lines shows the areas where the Delhi Government has provided no support and shown no interest. The improper waste management, open dumping, illiteracy and poverty are many areas of these slums which require quick attention of the government. Some of the shocking sights were the jobs that the residents have to do to earn their livings one of which was that of a woman who was collecting plastic bottles from the dumps which constituted of hazardous wastes and was coming in contact with the waste with bare hands. Most of the workers in the slums of Hauz Khas Village were that of children between the age group of 12-16 doing to labor works and lowly tasks to earn a living. The slums were also a breeding ground of diseases as we also came across many ill residents who were infected by swine flu, tuberculosis etc. There was no system of toilets which was one of the major reasons for diseases and also a drawback for women, which lead to sickening diseases but the adverse poverty makes it difficult for them to afford medicines.
The harsh lifestyle of the people brings us to the reality of the place.

  1. this is quiet sad, as there has been no help from the government's side. The one thing they had put their faith in has totally disappointed them
